Day 19 - Leaving Cairns; Arriving in Sydney

Clint - We flew from Cairns to Sydney today, but before we left, we had to take care of some "administrative issues"; namely paying my ticket for failing to stop at a RR crossing. Part of me wanted to just not worry about it. I mean I'm probably not coming back to Australia any time soon and I doubt there going to detain me at the airport, but another part (also known as the "better half") said we should pay the piper. We woke up, figured out where to go to pay, and stood in line there (similar to the DMV), and left AUD$300 poorer (~US$240). Pretty steep, but they've had some RR crossing deaths here recently since they aren't as clearly marked and controlled as the USA's. We also returned the ol' Getz, did some laundry, and checked out before grabbing a taxi (the resort shuttle left us; it was a hectic morning) to the airport.
The flight to Sydney was fine. If you ever have the opportunity to fly Qantas, take it. They beat the pants off all the US based carriers. All our flights have been on time and smooth and they feed us real meals on every one. Anyway, we arrived, checked in, and went out to China Town for some shopping and dinner. We ate at a Chinese place that was very crowded with Asian people. It was very good, but not cheap. Eating at sit down places here has been more expensive in general than we expected, however all taxes are included in prices and there is no expected tip (though they don't turn it down from Americans). Service is hit or miss, but generally worse than the States.
