Day 17 - Palm Cove

Theresa: Since this was our first destination with warm weather, I wanted some beach time to relax and just “be.” We rented a Hyundai Geetz (they're quite popular in Australia) and headed to Palm Cove. There were lots of small beach areas along the way, but we were told Palm Cove had eating and shopping areas as well in case we wanted to do something. Palm Cove was beautiful, very quiet, and completely unpopulated. I guess that’s one perk of travelling during the winter time! We had an early lunch at a nearby café and spent the rest of the day at the beach.

Back in the city, Clint spotted a group of people playing sand volleyball in the park next to the Lagoon. He was invited to join in the game. I guess volleyball is a universal game because not many people spoke English, but everyone seemed to know what they were doing. Not only did the Lagoon area have a beach and volleyball courts, but it also had a skate park. While Clint played volleyball, I watched people attempt some wild stunts at the park on their skateboard and bikes. Perseverance must be mandatory here because I witnessed some pretty nasty falls, but everyone seemed to get up and have a go at it again! My favorite was watching the little boys go up to the older boys who were sprawled on the cement after a failed stunt and say, “You okay, mate?”

We decided to go to an early Italian dinner next to the Pier before we headed back to our resort for the evening.
