Being close to a volcano, there were many hot springs. It seemed like a good idea… relaxing in a hot spring after hiking. Except it was around 96 degrees outside and the springs were 100 degrees and up!!
We decided to go to Baldi Hot Springs resort. Instead of just sitting in a hot spring pool, this resort had water slides and several hot spring pools at varying temperatures.
The resort was empty except for a few other families. We started off at the bottom of the resort and worked our way to the top. We relaxed in a jacuzzi hot springs pool and a huge swimming pool with small cooling pools in the middle.
Then came some heart-pumping activities. The website said “extreme” water slides. Wow, extreme they really were! Theresa had talked to a family from Texas in the large pool and the dad casually said, “I was surprised at how fast the water slides go.” So Theresa said she would take photos while Clint and Ariadne attempted them first. Before Ariadne and Clint came down, a French women came flying out of the middle slide skidding across the water before she flipped a few times. Next Ariadne came flying out and skidded across the water. Ariadne said she went airborne before she flew out. Clint came out of the slide to the right and it wasn’t too fast. So Theresa stuck to the slides to the right and left of the super fast one.
Next was the funnel water slide which in the US you would ride in a float! The water slide was a covered at the top and then it dumps you out into an open funnel. You circle around the funnel a few times before you fall out the bottom into a pool.
We continued up the resort to more hot springs with waterfalls. Then it started to rain and thunder, so we went to the lunch buffet on site to wait out the downpour that happens every afternoon.
Arriving back to Quinta Benavidas, we had two "guards" at our door! Ariadne named them "Ma and Pa".
