Day 4 -5: Cahuita National Park and Beaching

We couldn't decide if we wanted to hire a guide to take us through Cahuita National Park which was a rainforest. However, a family we met on the rafting trip said they had a wonderful experience with a tour guide named Richard. So Clint contacted him on WhatsApp (very popular in CR) and he met us at the gate of the park at 8:30AM.

Richard carried with him a high powered telescope and binoculars that he let us use. Yes, we could have done the 3 hour walk by ourselves and seen a couple of animals. However, with Richard, we were able to see so much more!

Below is our favorite sighting... an iguana. Looking through Richard's telescope, we thought it was a small iguana in a tree. However, it was an iguana way out in the rainforest that was the size of Ariadne!

We saw sloths, capuchin monkeys, as well as a trail of leaf cutting ants!

At the end of the trail was a beautiful blue beach. Since we were going to spend our afternoon at the beach, we decided not to pack swim clothes since we would be going later and tomorrow.

We grabbed lunch at a local soda restaurant in Cahuita and headed back to change to go to the beach. We decided to go back to Cocles Beach where we ate breakfast. This beach was known for surfing, so it had huge waves and a lot of surfers.

The next day, we visited Punta Uva beach. The water was blue and the waves were calm like the beach in Cahuita park. It was the weekend, so we knew it would be busy with locals. We had a huge Costa Rican family next to us who grilled out. They were nice enough to share a plate of freshly grilled chorizos and pork belly. Guess they felt sorry for us as all we brought was a bag of potato chips and water!

Clint and Ariadne went for a ride through the waves on a "Paparazzi" float! Ariadne stood up on the float while Clint laid down at the bottom as the boat pulled them around the beach. Although they had a good time, Theresa was glad she passed on this adventure. The waves gave Clint and Ariadne a good beatin'!
