We were meeting Dylan our guide at 8am to tour Manuel Antonio National Park. They definitely searched our bags to make sure we didn’t bring in any food or plastic water bottles. Dylan pointed out pretty flowers and told us how the flowers attracted animals and that’s how their seed got spread. We saw bats and a rainbow grasshopper! We stopped halfway through our tour to get a drink and snack at the only restaurant in the park. The restaurant was in a cage. It was ironic… humans in a cage and monkeys looking in on us! Dylan explained the cages were built about a year ago because the monkeys were getting too aggressive due to humans feeding them. So now all food had to be left inside the cage. As we continued our walk, capuchin monkeys were in the trees and even came out to our walking path. We also got to see a mama and baby sloth.
Our tour ended at Manuel Antonio beach. The waves were much calmer than the beach yesterday outside the park. When Clint came out of the changing room, Dylan didn't recognize him because he "didn't look like Indiana Jones any more." Theresa got a hoot out of that, and we said goodbye to Dylan and enjoyed some time cooling off in the blue waters.
After we finished swimming, we walked back a different path through the mangroves. We made an extra stop on the way back to hike up to see a view of the beach from above.
We were starving when we finally exited the park at 3:30! We ate at Restaurante Donde Alex right outside the park.
The next day we went on the private trails from the hotel. We were able to spot some animals on our own!
Though we couldn’t see them, we knew the monkeys were up there when a mango almost hit our heads. The chunk missing from the mango meant it took a bite!
Tonight we went to El Avión for dinner to try to catch the sunset. It was too cloudy, but we still got a pretty view. Theresa got a delicious seafood curry. We tried the cherry Fanta which tasted like medicine…yuck!
