Day 49: Northern Cascade Highway to Winthrop, Washington

It was time to make our trek to Yellowstone where Theresa's brother and parents were meeting us. We didn't know which route to take, but were talked in to taking the Northern Cascades Highway. It was destiny. The road opened today at 11am and we were going through around 1. This highway is a 93 mile drive through some really curvy mountainous roads, but the scenery is beautiful. Because it receives so much snowfall, the road is usually closed from November to April. This year, it didn't even open to mid-May!

We started in the West where is was cloudy and rainy. With all the rain, the area is lush an green. You can see the snow-capped mountains in the back.

As we got to the top of the ascent, the rain turned into snow. The picture below is from inside the RV.

We arrived when it was dusk on the other side to a small town called Winthrop. After a full week in solid rain and cloudy days, we were so excited to see the drastic difference on the other side!
