Day 45-47: Olympic National Park, Washington

Olympic National Park is huge and we were only able to see a small glimpse of it. We never made it to the coast or the rainforest. We spent our time camping in the forest at Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort. It was rainy, cold, and very muddy. However, we still ventured out to explore the park. The trees were huge and lush. We stopped by Crescent Lake to view the mountains in the back. The water was so calm and clear even though it was raining.

We swam in the mineral hot springs pool. The hot water was very relaxing until you climbed out of the pool into the cold air!

The ranger told us a popular stop was the Salmon Cascades where you can see salmon swimming or jumping upstream. It was cold so we questioned whether we would see anything. The ranger's response was, "They're fish. They do what they want to do." So we stopped by and actually saw fish, not salmon because it was too early in the season, trying to jump over the rapids on their way upstream. We wonder how many actually make it because it looks impossible!

For Mother's Day, Theresa requested a hike to Sol Duc Falls. The forest canopy was a great umbrella for us in the steady rain. The waterfall was beautiful.
