Day 44: Mt. St. Helens, Washington

On our way to Mt. St. Helens from Crater Lake, we hit 5000 miles! This is truly an adventure of a lifetime! And we're only halfway done with our trip!

Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980. People knew it was going to erupt, but what they didn't anticipate  was that it erupted out of the side instead of the top.

We had planned on spending 2 nights here, but we lost a night when we we backtracked to Yosemite to try to find our camera. It was rainy and cold when we arrived. We spent the night at the state park across from the visitor center. The view of the mountain was impossible due to the cloud coverage. We learned from the visitor center we could drive up the mountain, but the Johnston Ridge Observatory was closed and the view of the crater and mountain was nonexistent. We decided to try to drive halfway up and hope the sun would peek out. No luck. It actually started to snow.
