Last night we awoke to heavy rain and wind. The tent would slowly collapse in with every gust of wind, but it held strong. Not a drop of rain in the tent either. We were impressed with our tent pitching skills (well mainly Clint's skills). We packed up our tent and said goodbye to our beach campsite and headed to Hanalei Bay to get on Captain Sundown's catamaran to cruise the Napali coast for 6 hours.
We kept our phones packed away on the wet boat ride so nothing to share until we get home and can download them off our camera. Here's a picture of the cave across the street from our camp site:
After returning to shore, we headed to the Kauai Beach Resort. After 2 nights in a tent, the hot showers and poolside loungers were a welcomed change. We had dinner at the Shrimp Station, a fast food style shrimp restaurant with several locations on the islands.
We got picked up on the beach by Larry in a bright yellow boat. We would cruise along the coast for 2.5 hours to get to our snorkeling destination. We would snorkel, have lunch, and then head back.
The cruise along the coast was breath-taking. We appreciated it even more after walking along the coast yesterday! We could see the trail along the ridge and realized how high up were were walking yesterday. We saw caves formed by the waves crashing along the edge as well as salt deposits halfway up left by huge waves in the winter! Dolphins even accompanied us along the way.
Larry said the water was a little rough today, so we might not get the best snorkeling experience. However, we thought it was pretty great! We saw lots of colorful fish and coral. The highlight of the trip was seeing turtles! They would float to the top, poke their faces out for air, and dive back down into the coral.
Larry warned us the ride back would be fast, bumpy, and wet. He said one side of the boat would be the wettest and the other side wetter. No dry spots to sit! He wasn't joking. The ride back as like a roller coaster. The boat would sail up onto a big wave and then crash back down into the water spraying water all over us.
