Day 13 - Snorkel Tour, South Maui

We had a 6:00 AM reservation on the catamaran Frogman for a tour of a couple snorkel sites not accessible from land. Our first destination was Molokini, a mostly sunken crater that is now a wildlife sanctuary. The crescent shaped rock protects the underwater reefs from the waves and provides many birds a haven from the strong winds for nesting.

Next up was Turtle Town. As expected, this is an underwater "lava finger" reef where sea turtles like to feed and clean (the reef fish eat the algae off their shells). As a sign of how spoiled we are by turtle sightings already on Maui, we were disappointed to only see one who liked to hide in the caves between breaths every few minutes. After that, we headed back to harbor and saw a coast guard boat from the station nearby cutting through the waves rather quickly.

We then explored the towns of south Maui: Kihei, Wailea, and Makena. More beautiful beaches, nice resorts, shopping, and golf courses here.

We grilled our dinner at home again tonight. Grilled ono and seared Ahi with sides and another beautiful sunset after the afternoon rains subsided.
