Day 14 - West Maui, Iao Valley

To completely go all the way around Maui, we needed to drive around the west side.  There were more gorgeous views of the ocean waves crashing into the cliffs.  We saw an arch formatiion created by the waves and wind.  We also took a short hike down to a rock maze that someone had made along the cliffs.

The end of our circle drive was Iao Valley which is a rainforest at the end of a town in west Maui.  We could feel the temperature drop slightly as we entered the valley.  Iao Valley is where a famous battle took place in which King Kamehameha defeated Maui's army as he tried to unite all of Hawaii into one kingdom.  The Iao Needle is a 1200 feet green rock that was used during the battle for a lookout point into the ocean.

We finished off the day with one last swim with the turtles and some Maui Tacos.
