Day 4 - North Shore- Hideaway Beach, Haena State Park

We woke up to roosters crowing and a rainy morning. Apparently, wild roosters are very common. According to everyone in Kauai, it's always raining somewhere in Kauai! They say if you drive five minutes away, it will be sunny again!

We packed up and had breakfast at Lei Petite Cafe around the corner where we stayed. While we ate breakfast, it would rain for a bit, clear up, and the sun would come out. The whole process kept repeating. We continued our journey with some great views of Princeville's valleys:

We decided against doing a hike today due to the rain, so we went to the beach instead. Our first beach was called Hideaway Beach in The St. Regis Resort. It definitely was hidden! We found the steep stairway down to the beach on a narrow dirt path between tennis courts and a parking lot.Since it had been raining so much, the stairway was muddy and even covered by the mud. Finally arriving at the bottom, we had a beautiful beach to ourselves for a while! The sand was so soft that you would sink in to your ankles.

After the beach, we headed off to Haena Beach Park to set up our tent because we were spending the next two nights on the beach! We set up our tent 50 feet from the beach! It was kind of weird to be pitching your tent while others were sunbathing and swimming! Or go swimming yourself and see your tent in the distance!

Thanks to Cheryl from Camp Kauai Rentals! She had our camping gear all ready for us to pick up...air mattress with a battery operated pump (so long sleeping bags!), sheets, comforter, and pillows. It was amazing to fall asleep to the waves crashing in the background. And with the breeze from the ocean, we weren't even hot!
