Next stop was Kapalua Bay which is known for being a family-friendly beach. It definitely was with rental umbrellas and beach chairs up and down the beach. The beach also had really calm waves too. We also decided to be brave and test out our iPhone waterproof bag by taking one of our iPhones in the water with us! See what you think!
Our lucky day! Not only did the phone still work, we got a surprise phone call. As many of you know, Clint and Theresa style involves not booking or making reservations in advance. We always wait until we get to our location before we start booking. Our plan almost backfired on us as we tried to book dinner at Old Lahaina Luau (the oldest and supposedly the best luau). They were sold out for the entire month of May! The reservations girl told us she would put us on a waiting list and call if anyone cancelled. As our phone started ringing on the beach with Hawaii's area code, we got excited! Kalua pig here we come! :)
Our final beach before we went back to our condo to get ready for the luau was Black Rock. It was known for people diving off the rocks at the end. The water was really clear with fish just swimming around all the people. We wonder if there would be even more fish if there wasn't so much commotion from all the cliff divers.
After getting quick showers, we were off to our Luau which included a buffet dinner and a show! They showed us to our table, told us to walk the grounds for crafts, and be around the imu in half an hour for the unearthing of the roasted pig. The buffet dinner was delicious and gave us a chance to try some Hawaiian cuisine such as poke (raw fish salad), poi (mashed taro roots), and, of course Kalua pig (roasted pig).
