Day 6 - June 9 - Hue

Once we landed in Danang, we got on a bus to drive to Hue in central Vietnam. We stopped at Lang Co Beach which is famous for the storks that are in the bay. For lunch we ate at Phuoc Thanh Garden and had yummy noodle soup called Bun Bo Hue and some pancakes called Banh Khoi. Then we were dropped off at the Imperial Hotel to check in and rest for a few hours before we began our tour of Hue. The hotel is modeled after the Royal Palace so the intricate woodwork is gorgeous.

Hue was home to Vietnam's Nguyen dynasty when they ruled the country so it is the city of Kings. We began our tour in Hue at the Citadel/Imperial City. This is very much like the Forbidden City in China. The Citadel had a huge wall erected around it to keep enemies out.

The division of the city was methodically layed out in sections such as the Forbidden Purple City where the king lives to the Thien Mieu Temple which houses the altars of the last 10 Nguyen emperors.

From there we took a boat cruise along the Huong/Perfume River to the Thien Mu Pagoda (known as the oldest Pagoda in Vietnam). For dinner we ate at a local restaurant that had us "dress up" in royal attire and pretend to be part of the royal family. My mom and dad were chosen to be the King and Queen. We ate while they sang and played music.
