Day 17 - June 20 - Bac Lieu -> Can Tho

In the morning, we went to visit my mom's grandfather's tomb. Again, like the tombs we visited yesterday, the land all around the tomb has changed. There is some type of factory behind the tomb and the heavy rains last night made the tomb impossible to reach without wading through water.

On the way back to Saigon, we stopped at Can Tho to visit the Floating Markets. From the pictures above, you can see that the markets are basically boats in the water or houses along the bank that are selling vegatations grown on land. We rented a boat and driver and drove to the market.

We pulled up to one of the houses along the banks to buy fruit. My family decided to buy an unpleasant, smelly fruit called Durion and ate it right on site. Just to give you an idea of how bad this fruit smells, you get charged a huge fine in hotels if you bring this fruit into your room because they literally have to spend days fumigating the room!

We have been lucky so far with our hotel choices, but our luck ran out tonight when we arrived back in Saigon. The room was nice and clean. However, at 5:30AM, the music started cranking full blast at the restaurant across the street! Guess when were paying $17 for a room, we should't be too surprised!
