Day 58-59: North side of Yellowstone National Park, Gardiner, Montana

We were spending the last 2 days in Yellowstone on the North side and staying in Gardiner. On our way to the North entrance, there was a huge slow down with road construction and bison crossing. There was one lone bison who chose not to cross until the RV was coming up on it. Clint had to slam on the breaks. Glad we didn't have to add to the slowdown with a crushed bison!

The north side of Yellowstone looked completely different than the south side. There was no snow in sight! Yellowstone River flows through the north side.

This is the view of the mountains in Yellowstone from our RV site in Gardiner.

The North Entrance begins with the Roosevelt Arch and the Liberty Cap which was a towering rock of travertine. Mammoth Hot Springs is unique from Old Faithful. Instead of geysers, it has hot springs that created terraces of travertine deposits. There is a boardwalk encircling all the terraces that we took a quick stroll around.

We wanted to go to Lamar Valley next to see more wildlife. However, there was a road block from a car flipping over. So everyone had to turn around. They estimated it would take at least another hour or two before the road would open up again. So we went and had lunch and tried again! It was well worth the wait! Lamar Valley was beautiful with plenty of wildlife to see. One of our favorites was a mama bear and her two cubs walking across the lush green grass.
