Glacier National Park is in Montana's Rocky Mountains. It's about 10 miles from Alberta, Canada. It is famous for its Going To The Sun Road which is a 53 mile long road from east to west of the park and crossing the continental divide. Unfortunately the middle part of the road (the highest and prettiest we hear) was closed until they could finish plowing the roads. They are hoping it would be done by Father's Day (which is in 3 weeks!).
However, we still got some incredible views! We spent the first day Apgar in West Glacier. Below is Lake McDonald with the mountains in the back. It was in the high 70s, but the water was in the 40s. Ariadne played along the shore, but was disappointed we wouldn't let her in.
We hiked to Rocky Point and got an elevated view of Lake McDonald. In Clint's hand is bear mace which they advised us to buy if we were going hiking. We saw very few people on this hike, so we were glad to have the bear mace. Theresa was excited that she got a deal on the mace! It was last year's mace for a 1/3 of the price. The sales lady assured Theresa it was still good. Ariadne was confused and slightly concerned why we would want to hurt a cute bear. Clint was disappointed he didn't get to use it.
The next day we drove around to the East side. We stopped at Two Medicine and hiked Aster Falls.
We went to Many Glacier and had goats blocking our path.
As we were exiting East Glacier at the end of the day, a herd of wild horses crossed our path.
We went back to West Glacier the next day and drove the Going to the Sun road as far as we could go. The road was blocked at Avalanche and we hiked the Trail of the Cedars.
As promised, we went back to Lake McDonald so Ariadne could go for a swim in the freezing water. Clint joined her, while Theresa enjoyed the 80 degree weather on shore and worried the other two Kings were going to get hypothermia. The locals were impressed that Ariadne didn't mind the cold, especially when they found out we were from the south. She enjoyed it so much that she even swam in the stream near our RV campground when we got back!
The last day in Glacier was spent at the RV campground. Ariadne enjoyed the unique playground that had a metal slide and replica buildings. She and Clint went for a canoe ride in the pond.
