Day 23-Vienna

After a very long and busy day in Budapest, we slept in and headed straight for the train station to go to Vienna.

We arrived in Vienna late afternoon so we decided not to sight see until tomorrow. Instead, we went to Prater Park which is a public park with amusement rides. We were expecting a Six Flags type of ticket, but it was more like a carnival where you pay per ride. Since we just rode a ferris wheel in Budapest, we skipped the famous ferris wheel that had cabins instead of buckets.

Ariadne fell in love with the rollercoasters at the park. Her favorite was the Megablitz. Theresa and Clint picked a water ride which we thought would be like Thunder River/Log Ride at Six Flags. We all got in a big circular float and held the metal ring in the middle. But as we started down the slide, the float bumped up against the wall and started SPINNING around and around all the way down. Needless to say, we both were a little queasy after that one!

After Prater, we went to Vienna's City Center to visit St. Stephen's Cathedral. We decided to take an elevator up the tower to view the city.

To end our day in Vienna, we ate at Figlmuller, a famous Viennese restaurant famous for their schnitzel. There was a line outside the restuarant so we knew it had to be good. We waited about 30 minutes. Ariadne's favorite thing to tell people is "My mom ate a groß schnitzel." groß means large and the schnitzel, which is a piece of pork pounded down and breaded, was overflowing the plate! We also got boiled beef. It was delicious!

The next day we got up and walked around the Hofburg Palace. This is where the Habsburg royal family lived until the end of WWI. The Sisi Museum was very popular, but we did not have time to go in it. It was all about Empress Elizabeth. We found a statue of Maria Theresa who was the only female to rule Austria.

After the Hofburg Palace, we boarded a train to Prague.
