Day 6: Driving Through Louisiana to Texas

After the thunderstorms pass through our RV site, we packed up and headed to Baton Rouge for a quick pit stop on our way to Texas for the night.

We parked Hungry in front of USS Kidd Veterans Museum. It was late in the afternoon and we were starving so we walked to Poor Boy Lloyd's which was famous for its po'boy sandwiches. After lunch we went back to the USS Kidd. The USS Kidd is a destroyer that was used in World War II and the Korean War. You can actually walk aboard the destroyer! On the main deck exterior we saw all the artillery guns. Ariadne was very intrigued by the Arial guns and wanted to know why the Navy people would want to shoot down airplanes. "That's not being nice," she said. We tried to explain the best we could in 4 year old terms what being in a war meant. We saw the cramped living quarters, the kitchen, cafeteria, and meeting rooms. We climbed downstairs to see where they stored and launched torpedos.

We drove across Loisianna and into Baytown, Texas. We were "boondocking" in the Walmart parking lot for the night. Walmart allows RVs to park overnight in their parking lot in hopes the RVers will go in and shop. Brilliant idea because that's exactly what we planned to do in the morning! There were several other RVs in the parking lot taking advantage of the free overnight parking as well! Guess we're not the only cheapskates.
