Day 7 & 8: Paris

It was a raining day in Paris today, so the 3 Kings decided it would be the perfect day to go to the Louvre Museum.  We decided to view the Denon Wing first to see the Mona Lisa. As we came up the staircase, we saw the Winged Victory of Samothrace at the top. It was beautiful!

We probably should have prepped Ariadne a little better for the Louvre Museum. As we were on the way to see the Mona Lisa, we stopped in a room filled with sculptures. We were intrigued by a bathtub. While we were reading the description, Ariadne steps up on the platform and put her hands on the edge of the tub and is about to hoist herself up. We quickly shout out to her to get off! With a confused look, she said she just wanted to see what the inside of the tub looked like!

Seeing the Mona Lisa was like getting in a mosh pit at a rock concert. You enter a room that is crammed with people. The painting is hanging on the wall that is roped off at the front of the room. You are pushed forward by the mob of people behind you. Once you get to the front, the attendant opens the rope to let you out. Clint had to hold Ariadne so she wouldn’t get trampled in the mob. She said it was hot and sweaty to just see a picture! Here’s Ari’s rendition of the Mona Lisa!

We stayed for another hour and headed outside to see the pyramids and walked through Tuileries Gardens toward Concorde and Arc de Triumph. When the rain got heavier we ducked into a restaurant for a late lunch. Ariadne tried escargot for the first time.

The next day we had great weather so we decided to go on a bike tour that was recommended by Clint’s friend back home in Atlanta. Since we were biking for a few hours and would be sharing the road with other vehicles at times, we decided a tandem bike would be best for Ariadne. Lucky Clint!
We really enjoyed the tour. We learned how the city is divided into arrondissements or sections from The Louvre. The guide took us to where Hugo Victor lived. He wrote the Hunchback of Notre Dame. We also bikes by to see the reconstruction of the Notre Dame.
After the bike tour, we ate some gyros at a popular Isrealian restaurant. There was a line for the sit down part of the reataurant as well as the take out booth! We found it interesting that they charge you 2 extra euros for every item you order when you sit down.
After lunch we finished our walk to Arc De Triumph since it started raining too hard yesterday. Then we headed to the Eiffel Tower with our booked tickets to ride to the top! We had a great view of the city!
